The cabinet Bourgey numismatics, founded in 1895 by Etienne Bourgey, moved in the Drouot Street, n° 7, in 1907, where it is still today. The auctions of the Arras and the Mouffetard treasures, respectively in 1922 and 1938, had greatly contributed to establish the firm reputation in the art market. Emile Bourgey succeeded his father in 1945 and began to diversify the firm activities with the creation of the Editions Bourgey. Consultant-expert to famous collectors, he organized spectacular auctions and had a great part in the creation of the International Association of Professional Numismatists (I.A.P.N.), in 1951, in Geneva. He also was vice-president of the S.N.A. for many years. Roman history Ph.D. and president of the National Company of Experts (C.N.E.) from 1997 to 2000, Sabine Bourgey manages the family firm since 1993. In addition to his involvement with the Syndicat National des Antiquaires, she is president of the Cultural Commission. Sabine Bourgey is also a writer : she was published by many newspapers (during 1989 and 1990, she took part, as a journalist, to the research campaigns of Nuestra Senora de las Maravillas, a galleon which sank in the Bahamas in 1656) ; she wrote lots of numismatic studies but also books about treasures, inheritances, sugar and salt, luck… |
